Casa Oak: Where Luxury Meets Functionality – A Masterpiece by Eko Priharseno, AEDI Design Bureau

Drawing inspiration from oak—a wood celebrated for its strength, durability, and timeless elegance—Eko Priharseno conceived the three-bedroom show unit with a utilitarian philosophy at its heart. “The brief from Savyavasa was to design a home for a contemporary family that seamlessly complements an urban lifestyle. My vision was to create a space that not only addresses the practical needs of modern homeowners but also exudes beauty and adaptability. Casa Oak, as I envisioned it, strikes a balance between functionality and luxury while allowing residents to reconfigure their spaces as needed,” Eko reflects.

Eko carefully selected premium materials, including natural stone countertops and high-quality cabinetry, to infuse the space with a sense of refined luxury. By incorporating sustainable design elements such as energy-efficient appliances and water-saving fixtures, Eko showcases environmental responsibility while enhancing everyday living.

With over two decades of experience leading his design firm, Eko has refined a design approach that emphasizes functionality and utilitarianism, placing real-life needs at the center of living and working environments. This focus is evident in his decision to allocate more space than usual to storage and service areas, essential for a family-oriented home.

The interconnected pantry, living room, and dining area are designed with multifunctionality in mind, offering ample hidden storage solutions. Concealed storage units run discreetly along one side, from the entrance to the balcony, featuring seamlessly integrated elements like a disguised TV cabinet that blends practicality with aesthetic appeal.

Eko’s vision extends beyond utility. For this art-loving and design-conscious family, he envisioned a versatile layout with a sophisticated yet minimalist aesthetic. The TV cabinet’s sliding doors feature the artwork “Ponder and Wonder, and Everything in Between” (2024) by Indonesian artist Haiza Putti. In the dining area, a statement chandelier and newly introduced magnetic track lighting add distinctive flair and modern appeal.

The three bedrooms are tailored to specific needs: a master bedroom, a children’s room, and a versatile multipurpose space. The master bedroom’s wall coverings are inspired by the paulownia tree, with intricate patterns enhanced through advanced dyeing techniques. Layered textiles add depth and texture, creating a tranquil and intimate atmosphere. The children’s room features a tatami-style setup, optimizing space while blending tradition with modern design. The third room, designed as a study or hobby area, features cutting-edge switchable glass walls that transition from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button, offering both privacy and focus.

Approximately 80 percent of the furnishings are custom-made, giving Eko the flexibility to craft a space that is efficient, functional, and uniquely tailored to the family’s lifestyle. This bespoke approach not only maximizes practicality but also imbues the home with understated luxury, aligning with Eko’s philosophy that sophisticated living should be as adaptable as it is elegant
