At This Jakarta Studio, the Workday Sometimes Ends in the Pool

At Aedi Design Bureau, the working day rarely begins at a desk. Coffee is shared around the communal table, conversations spill into the library and, upstairs, the analogue room offers a welcome break from screens. Led by husband-and-wife duo Eko Priharseno and Audrey Bernanda, the Jakarta-based practice has spent the past two decades nurturing a design approach shaped by empathy, process and lived experience. Organised around the typology of a barn, the studio is conceived as an open, communal environment. ‘We’re like a herd. There is no hierarchy here,’ Priharseno explains. Throughout the space, pieces by Noguchi, Breuer and Panton serve as daily reference points. ‘We want our designers to understand good design,’ Bernanda says. ‘Not only through books or images, but by living with it.’
