Good design, for us, starts with trust — the kind a patient places in a doctor, without which nothing moves forward. That trust is fed by community: people creating out of love, with no commercial stake, whose energy we chase and let shape our work. It shows, too, in how we treat windows — not as objects, but as frames for how we see the world, from a eucalyptus tree held in our own opening to a client’s sunset softened by curtains, light doing more for a room’s mood than any showpiece could. Twenty years of holding onto this is what lets us pass it forward, sharing what we’ve learned with younger designers and giving them more ownership of what comes next. It carries through the homes we design — like one where a copper-patinated staircase glows like a permanent sunset, Coulisse’s cream Richmond blinds soften the tropical light throughout, and a kitchen where crisp marble meets mustard-toned upholstery balances the rhythm of the whole house.
